BULOKE Shire Council has adopted its 2026 State Election Advocacy Priorities, outlining key projects and investment opportunities across the Shire ahead of the Victorian State Election on 28 November.
At its Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday 21 October, Council endorsed the advocacy document, which highlights a major project in each of Buloke's five larger townships, alongside additional priorities for road improvements, with projects drawn from Council strategies and community plans.
The document will support Council's engagement with political candidates and government representatives, seeking election commitments and investment in projects that support the long-term sustainability and liveability of Buloke's communities.
Cr Barratt highlighted the importance of ensuring local priorities are represented ahead of the election.
“The state election will be held on 28 November 2026 and it is important to ensure key Buloke priorities are highlighted to potential candidates for the lower and upper house seats.
“The advocacy document for the election highlights a key major project in each of the five larger townships and also has additional asks related to roads.”
Council endorsed a proposal to apply for funding through the Victorian Government's Creating Safer Places Grant Program to support the installation of additional security cameras across Donald.
The proposal follows requests from the Donald community for improved safety measures following the tragic death of a young teenager earlier this year. Proposed locations include public parks, the main street, Bullocks Head Lookout and Council facilities.
The grant program provides funding of between $50,000 and $250,000, with Council to work alongside Victoria Police and community representatives to support the application.
Cr Delaney acknowledged the community's role in bringing the proposal forward and the support received for the application.
“The grant requires community and Victoria Police letters of support which have been received.
“If Council is successful in obtaining the grant, the CCTV will be installed and monitored as per councils CCTV policy which includes footage only being able to be accessed for legal reasons.”
Council also endorsed the Central Murray Regional Transport Strategy 2024, developed in partnership with neighbouring councils across Victoria and New South Wales.
The Strategy identifies regional transport priorities to improve road safety, freight efficiency and infrastructure connections, including upgrades to key freight routes, the Five Ways intersection in Birchip and dangerous Y-intersections across the Shire.
Cr Getley highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in securing investment for critical transport infrastructure.
“This strategy gives Buloke and its five neighbouring councils a unified regional voice to advocate for major transport improvement and investment. Endorsing the Strategy positions Buloke to secure future funding, improve freight efficiency, and strengthen regional connectivity and support the economic growth across the North West region.”
