Recycling Update

Publish Date: 5 September 2019

Recycling

Council is urging residents to continue to use their kerbside recycling and waste bins appropriately during the current recycling crisis.

Recycling materials collected by Council’s waste contractor, Four Seasons Waste, are currently being transported to a metropolitan landfill as a result of the SKM closure.

Buloke is one of 33 Councils that has access to the $6.6 million package recently announced by the State Government. Council will be submitting an application to access funds to assist with the cost of the diversion of these materials to landfill.

Council continues to work closely with Four Seasons Waste and industry bodies to develop a long term strategy to ensure our recycling does not go to landfill. This is a complex and potentially costly issue that Council will very carefully consider before making a decision.

Council urges residents to continue to recycle as normal. Household recycling practices need to be maintained during the current phase.

Council will provide further updates on this situation as required.
