June Meeting Wrap

Publish Date 22 June 2022

Buloke Shire Council’s June Meeting was highlighted by the release of the Draft Asset Plan, the awarding of Tourism Business Innovation grants, and the presentation of submissions to the Draft Annual Budget 2022/23.

The Local Government Act 2020 requires Council to develop an Asset Plan to transparently set its direction and priorities which support the efficient and responsible management of its assets on behalf of the community over the next decade. The long-term Asset Plan will be reviewed annually.

Council has heard submissions on its Draft Annual Budget which was adopted in May for public comment.

The Draft Annual Budget reflects Council’s focus to delivering on key initiatives and maintaining current services across its programs, services, facilities and infrastructure. The Draft Budget has been developed alongside the Draft Financial Plan and builds on Council’s commitment to long term financial sustainability and continued support for the community with a range of initiatives.

Council has considered submissions prior to adopting the Annual Budget 2022-23 at the next Council Meeting.

The Birchip Cropping Group has been successful under Round 1 of Council’s Tourism Business Innovation Grants to commence a local Farm Tours project. The tours would involve meeting and talking with farmers about what they produce, the technology and machinery used, encompassed within a ‘paddock to plate’ food experience curated by well-known chef Stefano de Pieri.

With a variety of high calibre proposals from tourism business ventures across Buloke submitted, it was evident to Council that innovation and investment in that sector is vibrant, signalling a positive climate post COVID-19 disruption.

New and existing applicants are encouraged to apply for Round 2 of the Tourism Business Innovation Grants program which opens on 11 August 2022. These grants are offered by Buloke Shire Council in partnership with the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.

Minutes and documents relating to the June Council Meeting are made available on Council’s website. The next Buloke Shire Council Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 29 June 2022.
