Buloke Gets Working for Victoria

Publish Date: 9 July 2020

Buloke Shire Council has commenced placing people in positions across the organisation as part of the State Government’s Working for Victoria initiative.

The $500 million Working for Victoria initiative is designed to support communities and contribute to the state’s ability to respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic by helping jobseekers find work and employers find those workers.

Council has been funded to place 50 staff in various roles across the organisation including outdoor workers, engineers, project managers and community service staff.

Some outdoor staff and administrative staff have already commenced with a rolling recruitment process still ongoing.

Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Judd said Council was well placed to fill all 50 roles across the organisation and is already seeing some great stories emerge as part of the program.

“It has been really heartening to be placing people from our local communities into meaningful work. Our roles are proving popular not only from a local perspective but for those looking to gain an opportunity to try somewhere new and even some former Buloke residents eyeing a move home.

“We still have some roles to fill and our staff are hard at work helping applicants through the process and finding the best fits for everyone concerned”.

Brett Schofield is one of those locals who has recently started with Council under the program as the Working for Victoria Program Manager, the well-known local is excited to take up the role.

“It's a great opportunity for me, with my experience of being involved with Buloke rural communities all my life, to be part of such an important initiative established by the State Government is exciting.

“It is such a fantastic boost for the area for Council to be able to offer six month contracts to local people who may have lost employment in recent months through these trying times, providing a variety of employment opportunities.

“I'm looking forward to working with a great organisation and our new employees over the next six months and hopefully beyond”.
