Open For Business

Publish Date: 12 November 2019

Buloke Shire Council has underlined its commitment to small business as it launched its Better Approvals Process as well as signing the Small Business Charter at an event held in Charlton.

The Better Approvals process is an initiative of the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions and Small Business Victoria. The process will improve the small business approvals process through a range of reforms identified by small business owners and regulators. Buloke Shire has been working in collaboration with the department and local businesses for the last six months to refine a streamlined process for new businesses to get going and for established businesses to grow.

This project builds on Council’s commitment to supporting growth, retention and expansion of small business within the Shire, while explicitly addressing the need for financial assistance to support reform in this area.

Council’s commitment to a fast and simple approvals process is a targeted contribution to innovation and local jobs that will make a real difference for small business.

Now people looking to start or grow their business within Buloke will have access to a range of tools including dedicated website information, one simple online application form and access to a Permit Support Officer throughout the application process and beyond.

Council doubled down on its commitment by signing the Small Business Charter alongside Victorian Small Business Commissioner, Judy O’Connell.

The Charter is an agreement between Council and the Victorian Small Business Commissioner to ensure both parties work together to improve information provided to small business, and to create a fair and competitive trading environment for small businesses in the Shire.

“We are seeing giant strides being taken in our Economic Development and Tourism Strategy which is not even 18 months old. Thank you to the Department and Small Business Victoria for their work alongside our staff in the design of our new look approvals process that will have great benefits for our business community and our community in general. Buloke is open for business and looking forward to working alongside all businesses.” said Mayor Cr Carolyn Stewart.
