Warren Mayor in Buloke

Buloke Shire Council has a new Mayor with the election of Cr Daryl Warren to the role at a Meeting of Council held on Monday night.

Cr Warren, commencing his second term as Councillor, was appointed for a one year term.

“I am humbled and grateful to my fellow Councillors for electing me as Mayor. This has been a long journey in many respects to arrive at the mayoral role at the Buloke Shire. If my family history serves me correctly, it goes back to 1900 when my grandfather was born at Lake Tyrrell”, said Mayor Cr Warren.

Cr David Vis was elected as Deputy Mayor at the meeting also for a one year term.

Council has set its meeting agenda for the upcoming year with Ordinary Meetings scheduled to be held in Wycheproof on the second Wednesday of each month and Councillor Briefings listed for all towns across the year on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, excluding January and some extra Councillor Briefings during the current Councillor Induction process.

Councillors now have a filling diary after the appointment of the organisations Delegated Representatives for a range of stakeholder groups was adopted.

Also at the meeting Council adopted its draft Community Engagement Policy for further consultation with the community.

The draft policy is a key requirement of the Local Government Act 2020 and will lay the foundation for how Council engages its community on a range of important forthcoming budgets, plans, and policies.

Community consultation on the Community Engagement Policy will run through until January.

Council has awarded to the contract for pavement and drainage works in Davies Street, Charlton to Coburns Earthmoving.

Part of the Charlton Riverfront Project (funded by the Federal Government’s Our Rivers, Our Regions Fund), the works include reconstruction and sealing of the roadway along Davies Street and associated drainage works from the Calder Highway to Travellers Rest in Charlton.

The next Ordinary Meeting of Council is to be held on Wednesday 9 December 2020.
