Wycheproof Early Learning Centre Officially Opens

Wycheproof Early Learning Centre Officially Opens

Publish Date: 9 March 2021

The Wycheproof Early Learning Centre has officially opened, marking a new dawn for the community.

Mr Mark Gepp (Member for Northern Victoria), Dr Anne Webster (Member for Mallee) and Ali Cupper (Member for Mildura) were all on hand to welcome the new facility that houses childcare, kindergarten, playground as well maternal and child health facilities.

The addition of the Early Learning Centre compliments the Wycheproof P-12 College, giving the town an education precinct that can take its children on a long and rewarding developmental journey.

WELC Opening

The $1.22 million project was funded by the Federal Government Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources through the Drought Communities Programme – Extension ($500,000), the Victorian School Building Authority ($700,000) and the local Parents Group ($20,000).

With a capacity of 12 day care and 22 kindergarten positions the new Wycheproof Early Learning Centre has been welcomed by the Wycheproof community and is already being well utilised.

“The project has long been held as a top priority for the Wycheproof community, this one-stop-shop addresses the previous lack of childcare facilities which prevented many community members from returning to work. It is a wonderful result for local families and an important investment in the future of the town and the area”, said Mayor Cr Daryl Warren.

“Council has advocated strongly for investment from all levels of government to support our families in living and working in the area. The completion of this facility means there are now new contemporary buildings in Birchip, Donald and Wycheproof, with projects underway in Charlton and Sea Lake to give each of the five major towns in Buloke appropriate early learning centres. We thank the Federal and State Governments for their support for local families and our next generation”, Cr Warren added.
