Have Your Say on Draft Annual Budget

Have Your Say on Draft Annual Budget 2019/20

Publish Date: 10 May 2019

Buloke Shire Council has placed its draft Annual Budget 2019/20 on exhibition and called for written submissions. The draft Annual Budget 2019/20 reflects Council’s commitment to long term financial sustainability and continued support for the community with a range of initiatives.

Key initiatives contained within the draft Budget include the repayment of the 5-year, $7 million loan, an $11.4 million allocation for infrastructure and asset renewal and upgrades and the commencement of the December 2018 Flood Restoration Works.

There is also provision for the implementation of a range of initiatives and programs from within the Buloke Integrated Community Plan, Buloke Inclusiveness Plan, Volunteer Action Plan and Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Strategy.

The draft Budget includes a general rating increase of 2.5%, and a further shift in the farming rate differential which is reduced from 88% to 82%.

“Council is pleased to release our proposed Budget to the community for comment and submissions. The budget builds on the work undertaken in our Long Term Financial Plan and centres on the key objectives of the Council Plan”, said Mayor Cr Carolyn Stewart.

“The proposed Budget details all of the resources required over the next year to fund the large range of services we provide to the community. It also includes details of the proposed capital expenditure allocations to improve and renew our roads, buildings, footpaths, aerodromes and recreational facilities”.

“A major highlight of this budget is no doubt the full repayment of the $7 million loan which Council has carried over the past five years. Prudent financial management since 2014 has allowed Council to both service the loan and still continue to deliver critical services and large scale capital works programs”.

“I invite all community members to get involved in your Budget process. Download the budget from Council’s website, grab a copy from our Wycheproof office and keep an eye out for our social media campaign throughout the consultation period”, added Cr Stewart.

Full details on making a written submission as well as the draft Budget are available on Council’s website. The draft Budget is also available in hard copy from Council’s Wycheproof office. Submissions close at 4.00pm Friday 7 June 2019.

Those who make a written submission will be invited to speak to their submission at Council’s Ordinary Meeting to be held on Wednesday 12 June 2019.

Council will, after consideration of all submissions, adopt its Annual Budget 2019/20 at a Special Meeting of Council to be held on Wednesday 19 June 2019.
