September Meeting Wrap

Publish Date: 9 September 2021

Buloke Shire Council’s September Meeting was highlighted by the adoption of Council’s redeveloped Advocacy Strategy, Public Interest Disclosure Policy and the release of the Draft Domestic Animal Management Plan.

Following the adoption of Council’s Long-Term Community Vision and Council Plan a redeveloped Advocacy Strategy is now in place to support initiatives outlined in those key strategies.

The initial Advocacy Strategy, adopted in May 2020, was the platform for significant outcomes which funded such projects as streetscapes, playspaces, key freight routes, Lake Tyrrell main intersection, Rex Theatre upgrade, Birchip Leisure Centre upgrades, Wycheproof Wetlands project and various drainage and environmental projects.

Key initiatives in the redeveloped strategy include cabin installations at recreational lakes and caravan parks, housing projects, Civic Precinct and Community Hub projects, art trail investment and further environmental and biodiversity projects.

Council underlined its organisational commitment to the objectives of the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2012 with the adoption of its Public Interest Disclosure Policy.

The policy provides an internal mechanism for reporting disclosures of improper conduct or detrimental action.

Council has released its Draft Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) for consultation. The draft DAMP outlines Council’s services, programs and polices established to administer the management of cat and dog issues in the community.

The DAMP promotes responsible pet ownership, and the welfare of cats and dogs in the. The plan also assists in the protection of the community and environment from nuisance cats and dogs, and in minimising the risk of attacks by dogs. The registration of and identification of cats and dogs is encouraged by the plan.

Also adopted at the meeting were three Instruments of Delegation, which are crucial to the operations and functions of Council, enabling decision-making powers to be delegated to Committees or member or Council staff to ensure the sector can function effectively.

Minutes and documents relating to this Council Meeting will be made available on Council’s website.

The next Buloke Shire Council Meeting is to be held on Wednesday 13 October 2021.
