Draft Governance Rules 2020

Pursuant to s 60 of the Local Government Act 2020 (the Act), Council is required to adopt and apply Governance Rules which describe the way it will conduct Council meetings and make decisions. Buloke Shire Council has prepared its Draft Governance Rules.

The Draft Governance Rules are designed to ensure good governance by Council through the performance of its role in accordance with the overarching governance principles and supporting principles of the Act.

The Draft Governance Rules shall replace the Meetings Procedure and Common Seal Local Law 2019.

At its Council Meeting held on 10 June 2020, Council resolved to:

·         Commence community engagement in relation to the Draft Governance Rules;

·         Allow submissions in writing in relation on any proposal contained within the Draft Governance Rules; and

·         Allow presentations in support of written submissions to be heard at the Council Meeting on 8 July 2020.

Members of the public are invited to make written submissions on the Draft Governance Rules by 4.00pm 8 July 2020. Those who have made a written submission are requested to indicate if they wish to make a verbal submission at the Council Meeting to be held from 7:00pm on 8 July 2020.

Submissions received by Council, after removing any personal information, may be included within the relevant Council Meeting Agenda.

The proposed Governance Rules will be considered at the Council Meeting to be held on 12 August 2020.
