Vale John Colbert

Publish Date: 4 November 2020

Former Donald Shire Councillor John Colbert passed away on 27 October 2020.

A former St. Patrick’s College student, John gave dedicated community service as a Councillor in the Donald Shire from 1960- 1981, including holding the role of Shire President on three occasions. On his retirement from Council, he was acknowledged for his invaluable service, noting that his presence would be greatly missed.

Passionate about farming, and actively engaged working with his son Chris until recent times, John was also heavily involved with the Victorian Farmers Federation.

A love of racing saw John involved with the Watchem Race Committee, along with enjoying catch-ups with fellow St. Patrick’s Old Boys at the Pakenham races in days past. John recently had the pleasure of seeing the Melbourne Cup up close during its tour through Birchip.

His extended family and the wider Birchip, Donald and Watchem communities will mourn a community man through-and-through.

John will be laid to rest on Thursday 5 November 2020 and as a mark of respect for his civic contributions, Council will fly its flags at the Wycheproof Office at half-mast on the day.
