State Initiative to Get Buloke Working

State Initiative to Get Buloke Working

Publish Date: 26 May 2020

Buloke Shire Council will employ up to 50 new staff for up to six months as part of the State Government’s Working for Victoria initiative.

The $500 million Working for Victoria initiative is designed to support communities and contribute to the state’s ability to respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic by helping jobseekers find work and employers find those workers.

One of the planks of the initiative is matching people who have lost their jobs due to the economic impacts of the pandemic with local councils.

Buloke Shire Council, one of 28 councils participating in the program, has been funded to place 50 staff in various roles across the organisation including outdoor workers, engineers, project managers and community service staff.

Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Judd said Council was hard at work preparing to bring in the new staff and ensure their time with Buloke is beneficial each of them as well as the community.

“This is an exciting and worthwhile initiative that Council is pleased to be getting involved in. It is incumbent on large organisations like ours to do all we can to support families and the community at any time, let alone during such a health and economic crisis.

“Council, and I am sure the community, are grateful to the Victorian Government for the opportunity to be able to have a positive impact on 50 families. To be able to do our part and place people in meaningful employment, will hopefully take that financial pressure off. At the same time, Council can undertake a range of projects outside our normal program, which will be of huge benefit.

“We will be working quickly to be ready to recruit and induct the temporary staff and ensure they have a positive experience and at the same time help Council to support the community during this difficult time”.
