March Meeting Wrap

Publish Date 11 March 2022

Buloke Shire Council’s March Meeting was highlighted by reviews of its Road Management Plan and Annual Plan as well as advocacy for rail safety.

Council will release its Road Management Plan for further consultation in the next step of its comprehensive review. Council noted the considerable feedback already received on the plan at the meeting on the back of strong community engagement activities. The plan will be released to the community for two weeks to ensure that it reflects the community’s requirements.

Consideration is also being made in the upcoming 2022-23 Annual Budget to undertake a Roads Maintenance Service Review to explore efficiencies and refocus of resources. A second quarterly report on Council’s Year 1 Annual Plan has been received.

Highlights in the update include the adoption of the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategy, awarding of the kerbside collection contract, near completion of the Birchip Streetscape Project, Library Service upgrades, extensive Road Management Plan consultation, completion of lighting upgrades at multiple tennis clubs and the compilation of a draft Economic Development and Tourism Strategy.

Two dangerous rail crossings have been identified as requiring intervention with Council moving a Notice of Motion to write to both the Minister of Transport, Jacinta Allan and Minister for Roads and Roads Safety, Ben Carroll seeking urgent attention. The crossings north of Lalbert on the Donald-Swan Hill Road and north-east of Charlton on the Boort-Charlton Road are each of community concern and any upgrades would provide greater safety for all road and rail users.

New members have been appointed to the Wycheproof Recreation Reserve Community Asset Committee with Jenna Allan, Jessica Turney and Thomas Draffen being appointed to the committee. Thomas Draffen has been appointed as the Chairperson of the committee with minutes of committee’s Annual General Meeting also being noted.

The minutes and documents related to this meeting will be made available on Council’s website.

The next Ordinary Meeting of Council will be held on Wednesday 13 April 2022.
