Buloke Shire Council Service Information (Updated at 11.15am Thursday 21 November 2019)

  • The Buloke Library Service WILL NOT OPERATE.
  • All landfills and transfer stations WILL BE CLOSED.
  • Supported Playgroups session in Watchem WILL NOT GO AHEAD.
  • All Maternal and Child Health clients with existing appointments will be contacted by phone to reschedule their appointment.
  • Buloke Shire Swimming Pools WILL BE CLOSED (High temperatures combined with high winds and the chance of dry lightning strikes makes the pool areas not a safe place to be for staff or pool users).

Cool Spaces

If you have no other option to escape the heat, the following spaces will be available for you to keep cool through the peak heat period from 11.00am until 3.00pm today.

  • Birchip – Birchip Shire Office Chambers, Cnr Cumming Avenue and Rundle Street, Birchip
  • Charlton – Charlton Memorial Hall, 9-11 Armstrong Street, Charlton
  • Donald – Donald Hall Supper Room, 33-35 McCulloch Street, Donald
  • Sea Lake – Mallee Track Health and Community Service, 33-43 McClelland Avenue, Sea Lake
  • Wycheproof – Wycheproof Supper Room, 367 Broadway, Wycheproof.

These are “Cool Spaces and NOT Relief Centres or Evacuation Centres. Water is available at each address.

The Department has been advised that the following schools will be closed on Thursday 21 November 2019: 

  • Birchip P-12 School
  • Charlton College
  • Donald High School
  • Nullawil Primary School
  • St Joseph's, Charlton
  • St Mary's, Sea Lake
  • Tyrrell College
  • Wycheproof P-12 College

Early childhood services

The Department has been advised that the following services will be closed on Thursday 21 November 2019:

  • Birchip Early Learning Centre
  • Donald Children's Centre

Bus service cancellations/alterations

There will be bus closures on Thursday 21 November in the Mallee and Northern Country fire districts due to a Code Red warning.

o   For help with English, call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450 (freecall) and ask them to telephone VicEmergency Hotline. If you know someone who cannot speak English, provide them with this number.

· Never leave children, adults or pets in cars
· Check in on others
