Drought Applications Finalised

Publish Date: 10 May 2019

Council will be making applications for $1 million worth of projects across the Shire under the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme. The applications include a project in each of Buloke’s ten townships as well as a small halls and fire sheds program and an event to be held in partnership with the Birchip Cropping Group.

Senator Bridget McKenzie announced the $1 million funding package back in March. The infrastructure projects that have been applied for are to be delivered by the end of the year.

The following projects will be applied for to be delivered under the Drought Communities Programme:

·       Berriwillock Tynan Park Toilets Replacement: $135,000

·       Birchip Community Leisure Centre Oval Sprinkler System: $85,000

·       Charlton Township Arts Mural: $30,000

·       Culgoa Public Toilets Replacement: $100,000

·       Donald Pony Club Facilities Upgrades: $75,000

·       Sea Lake Silo Art: $85,000

·       Nandaly Travellers Rest Development: $122,000

·       Nullawil Public Toilet Replacement: $95,000

·       Watchem Hall Toilet Upgrade: $80,000

·       Wycheproof Centenary Park Toilet Replacement: $140,000

·       Small Halls/Fire Sheds Upgrade Program: $35,000

·       Climate Change/Farming Event (in partnership with BCG): $30,000

“This is a significant program of work about to be undertaken by Council. It has been a difficult time for both the farming and broader Buloke community. Importantly these projects are all key recommendations of the Buloke Integrated Community Plan and individual Community Plans. These decisions were also informed by the Council Plan, Economic Development and Tourism Strategy, Asset Management Plan, Recreation Plan and Streetscape Master Plans. It is not only wonderful that Council can deliver projects into each community in times like these, but by being involved in the composition of these plans, the community themselves have identified what they need”, said Mayor Cr Carolyn Stewart.

Given this is a Federal Government funding package, the outcomes of the applications will not be known until after the election.
