Economic Development and Tourism Committee Have 2020 Vision

Economic Development and Tourism Committee Have 2020 Vision

Publish Date: 6 March

Buloke Shire Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee (EDATAC) has held its first meeting for the year, with achievements of last year inspiring what can be achieved in 2020.

Meeting for the first time since September 2019, the committee members were joined by Mayor Cr Carolyn Stewart, Cr Graeme Milne and key Council staff. The meeting was also a great opportunity to introduce Council’s new Economic Development and Tourism Officer Tianna Hendy.

Key to a busy agenda was a workshop to start the development of a New Residents pack. The committee envisions these packs will be a great way to entice new residents into the Buloke area and give them the connections they need when they arrive.

The project is expected to be funded under the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme and a working group consisting of Cr Graeme Milne, and EDATAC members Kaylene Cossar and Julie Pringle has been elected to further develop the packs.

The committee also discussed Skilled Migration opportunities, Black Spot road improvements, strengthening the connection with Hobsons Bay City Council and received updates on Buloke Tourism and Wimmera Mallee Tourism projects.

“The Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee has been a great driver of Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Strategy since its inception. The discussions are beneficial and, given the excellent range of backgrounds at the table, well worked through. New Residents packs are something that our communities have wanted for some time and to see this project in particular start to unfold is exciting”, said Mayor Cr Carolyn Stewart.

The Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee will next meet on Monday 20 April 2020.
