Down By The River

Publish Date: 5 May 2021

Town attraction is set to grow in the south of the Shire as construction continues on two key projects, the Charlton and Donald Riverfronts.

In addition to streetscape works across the five larger towns in the Buloke, the riverfront projects, both funded by the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund (Our Region-Our Rivers), Council and the community, will transform the appearance and attraction of each precinct, whilst improving the connection of each township to the rivers.

In Donald the transformation of the Bullocks Head viewing and BBQ areas along the Richardson River has begun.

The project will deliver an improved viewing platform area complimented by lighting and information signs. A sheltered BBQ area with seating and lighting will be a great place to fire up the electric BBQ and enjoy lunch or dinner by the river.

Improvements to the precinct also include a parking area and irrigated landscaping featuring plants and a lawned area.

The Donald Skate Park delivery is enjoyed financial support from this funding stream.

Meanwhile on the Avoca River in Charlton the new viewing deck construction is underway and the upgrade to Davies Street has also commenced.

Similar to Donald, a new viewing platform will be improved by lighting and information signage. Irrigated landscaping of the area with seating to enjoy the plants and turf will add to the area that will also host a new art installation.

The Davies Street redevelopment includes an upgrade to the drainage and pavement whilst there will be a significant safety focus including lighting, pedestrian crossing and other traffic improvements.

The Charlton Weir upgrades delivered last year were also part of this project.

“It is an exciting time for both Charlton and Donald with two key projects that will support our residents as well as create excellent tourism opportunities and economic advantages”, said Mayor Cr Daryl Warren.

“Buloke is positioning itself as a real destination for visitation, and as we realise more of these projects that improve the amenity of each of our towns, we give ourselves the best chance to turn visitors into new residents, whilst improving the lifestyles of our communities”.

It is anticipated both projects will be finalised in the middle of this year. Look out for traffic management in place at times during the construction period.
