Former Buloke Shire Councillor and inaugural Mayor, Eddie Lee, passed away on Friday 17 September 2021.

He served as the last President for the Shire of Birchip in 1995 and was one of the inaugural Councillors elected to the newly formed Buloke Shire in March of 1997. Being the first Mayor of the Buloke Shire Council, Eddie has been credited with uniting all the towns that make up Buloke and leading the way.

Eddie was a Mallee man through and through, and the passion and commitment that he had for his community was remarkable. Robyn Ferrier, who served alongside Eddie for two terms described him as a “fantastic mentor, a great leader and someone who led for all communities”.

“He was a successful farmer and a great family man. He loved talking to people, and was always genuinely interested in what people were doing. His family, and the wider Birchip community will mourn a man who was committed to securing a better future for his community”, Robyn said.
