Cr John Shaw Resigns

Cr John Shaw has today written to Mayor Cr Carolyn Stewart and CEO Anthony Judd informing them of his resignation from Council, effective 19 August 2019.  

Cr Shaw was elected to his first term on Council, in the Lower Avoca Ward, in November 2016.

Cr Shaw was granted Leave of Absence from 20 January 2019 until 20 April 2019 at Council’s December 2018 Ordinary Meeting. He was then granted a second period of leave in May of this year, which expires tomorrow 14 August 2019.

Cr Shaw had recently gained employment interstate which had changed his personal circumstance significantly, leading to his decision to step down from Council.

“Council today has received the resignation from Cr John Shaw. He was an excellent Councillor during his nearly three years on Council and was a very active member of the Charlton community as both a business owner and a member of numerous community groups. Council wishes John all the best in his future endeavours and thank him for his service,” said Mayor Cr Carolyn Stewart.

CEO Anthony Judd will now write to the Minister for Local Government, Adem Somyurek and Local Government Victoria informing them of Cr Shaw’s resignation.

It is anticipated that the Victorian Electoral Commission will conduct a countback for the Lower Avoca Ward.
