Buloke Shire Council will share in $5 million funding with five other local government areas to improve the quality, effectiveness and affordability of services to our communities as part of the Rural Councils Transformation Program (RCTP).

The Victorian Government announcement will see Buloke, Hindmarsh, Horsham, Loddon, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack save millions of dollars and deliver better outcomes for their communities.

The announcement came as part of a wider announcement by Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek of all the successful recipients of the $20 million RCTP.

The program is the first of its kind for the state and the grant will be used to deliver a full suite of corporate information and technology applications in the areas of finance and payroll services which will deliver major productivity benefits and cost reductions.

“The Rural Councils Transformation Program is delivering more economic benefits for regional Councils than ever before and this is the first time they have received funding for projects of this scale”, said Minister Somyurek.

Buloke Shire Council Mayor, Cr Carolyn Stewart was excited about what this funding means for Buloke Shire Council staff and the flow on benefits to the community.

“This is a fantastic announcement for Buloke and our near neighbours. Buloke has a lot of aging and unsupported systems that we can now migrate away from and put those savings into asset renewal projects and programs outlined in Council’s 10-year financial plan.

“Sustainability of rural shires is paramount, Buloke has long advocated for change in the ability for all Victorians to be able to access a minimum suite of services no matter where they live, this announcement is another step in the right direction”, she said.
