Celebrating Buloke

Publish Date: 28 August 2020

In a year like no other, recognising achievement is even more reason for celebration.

With this in mind Council is again calling on Buloke residents to recognise their finest, and nominate individual and community endeavour for the annual Australia Day Awards.

While nominations may look a little different this year, here is the chance to reward the input and service which fuels our rural communities.

Award categories will remain the same as previous years:

Citizen of the Year (persons 25 years of age or older on 26 January 2021)

Young Citizen of the Year (persons aged 15 to 24 years of age on 26 January 2021)

Community Event of the Year (presented to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the year).

Covering the current year, or for outstanding community service over a number of years, this is chance to acknowledge the leadership, passion, vision and dedication, which now, more than ever, has kept the wheels turning in 2020.

Nominations for the awards are now open and can be made by downloading the Australia Day Awards Nomination Form available from Council’s website, with nominations closing on Friday 4 December 2020.

Council is currently working with both the Nullawil Progress Association and the Nullawil Historical Society on a civic event to be held on Monday 25 January 2021 at the historic “Auchmore” homestead museum in Nullawil to announce the winners.

Mayor, Cr. Carolyn Stewart said Buloke residents should put their thinking caps on when considering this year’s nominations.

“Being such a difficult year we may need to think outside the square when considering who our champions are,” Cr. Stewart said.

“In order to help you with your choices, Council will be launching a new webpage celebrating previous winners and showcasing the amazing contributions of our Buloke people and communities. Throughout the nomination period, Council’s media will feature stories and reflections on the achievements of the past and offer inspiration for selecting this year’s nominees.”

Cr. Stewart also said that in the event of ongoing restrictions, a contingency plan was being prepared by Council, which would deliver the awards ceremony online.
