Buloke Shire Council is undertaking an Industry Product and Services Gap Analysis project, another key action of the recently adopted Economic Development and Tourism Strategy.
Funding from Regional Development Victoria’s Stronger Regional Communities Plan Fund ($37,500) has gone toward the delivery of the project, which aims to support rural and regional towns to attract investment as well as families and young people to live and work.
Urban Enterprise, who has significant experience in the region, has been appointed by Council to undertake the project. The Victorian based firm has an innate understanding of the regional context of Buloke.
Consultation has commenced and will include workshops with Councillors, township forums and development groups, key Council staff, Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee, industry participants as well as government stakeholders.
The project will deliver a gap analysis report, a three-year investment attraction plan for Buloke as well as the undertaking of a deeper analysis of agribusiness, tourism and lifestyle, renewables and health and social assistance.
Whilst Buloke is widely recognised as the agricultural heartland of the state, gaps in industry and opportunities to diversify the regions supply chain will be identified to drive the attraction of new investment into the Shire.
“Buloke’s agriculture sector has a strong reputation and we’re proud to support the region to continue its output as global competition grows,” said Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes.
Buloke Shire Council Mayor, Cr Carolyn Stewart has seen many projects flow from Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Strategy of the last few months and is excited at what possibilities can come from this gap analysis project.
“This project ensures that those working the land and investing in Buloke can diversify and build on our many opportunities to further develop our ability to better life in Buloke and attract further investment and visitation”, she said.
