Celebrating Abilities Through Cinematic Art

Celebrating Abilities Through Cinematic Art

Publish Date: 8 March 2024

In a joint effort with VALiD (Western Victoria), a leading advocacy organisation for adults with disabilities, Buloke Shire Council will present the Focus on Ability™ Short Films at Charlton's Rex Theatre on 28 March 2024, at 1:30pm.

“By emphasising narratives that focus on abilities and personal challenges, it helps to foster inclusivity and celebrates the abundant talent and potential within our own community,” said Mayor Alan Getley.

“These films may also encourage local filmmakers to put the spotlight on Buloke with entries now open for the 2024 Focus on Ability Film Festival.”

A sensory area, will also be offered to participants, providing a break from the big screen and catering will also be provided.

Admission is FREE, however the event requires ticketing to accommodate a maximum of 200 guests. Please secure your booking through Eventbrite using this link to Eventbrite.

You can also call Council’s Community Recovery Team by phoning: 1300 520 520 for assistance to make your booking.

This event is made possible by the support of VALiD and Australian and Victorian Government’s Community Recovery Hubs Program.

As this festival continues to expand its reach, the screening of these films in Buloke is a testament to the growing interest and support for stories that advocate for a more inclusive and understanding society.

Local filmmakers are encouraged to enter the Focus on Ability Film Festival competition, which is open to all skill levels.

Over $100,000 in cash and prizes is on offer. Entries close 12 July, 2024. For more information visit: www.focusonability.com.au

Join us in Buloke to witness the transformative power of film and celebrate the remarkable abilities of people with disabilities.
