Draft Revenue and Rating Strategy and Draft Rating Policy

Wyche Street

Draft Revenue and Rating Strategy and Draft rating Policy

Council has developed a draft Revenue and Rating Strategy, and draft Rating policy as key initiative of the 2018/19 Annual Budget.

Background to the draft Revenue and Rating Strategy and draft Rating policy

In 2018 Council determined to prepare a Revenue and Rating Strategy following the adoption of the 2018/19 Annual Budget, which included significant increases in valuations and rates for farm land as a result of the general revaluation of properties as at 1 January 2018.  The objective was to develop a Revenue and Rating Strategy ensuring it meets statutory requirements, tax design principles and needs of rate payers.

The development of the Revenue and Rating Strategy included consultation with a Council-appointed Reference Group and the wider Buloke community.

The purpose of the Revenue and Rating Strategy, and the Rating policy is to set out the system of rates and charges adopted by Council for the purposes of distributing the rates burden across the municipality on a fair and equitable basis.  This Revenue and Rating Strategy, and Rating policy is for the four year period 2019-23, and will be reviewed every four years.
