From July 1, 2013 the State Government will introduce the Fire Services Property Levy. This new property based fire levy will fund the operations of Victoria’s fire services as recommended by the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission. It will replace existing insurance based funding model.
The Fire Services Property Levy will now be shown on your Council Rate Notice. The levy is not Council revenue and all payments received will be transferred to the State Government.
In accordance with the Fire Service Property Levy Act 2012 farming properties will be required to pay a fixed and variable amount. Where multiple parcels of farm land are used to operate a Single Farming Enterprise, a person may be required to pay a fixed charge once, by applying for the single farm enterprise exemption. Parcels of land may be contiguous or separate for the purposes of this exemption.
Where a Single Farm Enterprise includes land in more than one municipality, an application for all lands must be lodged with each municipality. All land holdings should be listed on the enclosed application with the largest land holding being nominated as the property where the fixed charge is to be applied.
To apply for the Single Farm Enterprise Exemption please complete the application form below.
