Permanent Full Time - From $38.73 per hour plus superannuation

This is a chance to step into a high-impact Governance Officer role where your expertise in governance, risk management, compliance, FOI and privacy will directly influence how Council operates and serves its community.
Working closely with senior leaders, Councillors and the Audit & Risk Committee, you’ll help shape strong governance frameworks, manage organisational risk and ensure compliance with key legislation.

In this role you will: 

• Contribute to the development, implementation and review of Council’s governance frameworks, policies, procedures and systems in line with the Local Government Act 2020.
• Administer Council’s Risk Management Framework, including coordinating risk assessments, maintaining strategic and operational risk registers, and reporting on organisational risk.
• Manage and maintain governance registers, including delegations and authorisations, conflicts of interest, gifts, common seal, and related party disclosures.
• Coordinate the preparation and distribution of Council, Councillor briefing, and Audit and Risk Committee agendas and minutes.
• Monitor organisational compliance with legislative and reporting frameworks, including the Local Government Performance Reporting Framework.
• Administer Freedom of Information requests and ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.
• Provide advice and support to staff on governance, risk, privacy, insurance and information management matters.
• Support the delivery of Council’s insurance program, including claims management and annual renewals.
• Maintain audit recommendations within audit management systems and monitor progress to completion.

To be successful in this position you will:

• Hold a tertiary qualification in Governance, Risk Management, Business Management, Legal, Commerce or a related discipline, or possess significant relevant experience.
• Demonstrate sound knowledge of governance-related legislation, including the Local Government Act 2020, Freedom of Information Act 1982 and Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.
• Have strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, professional advice to a range of stakeholders.
• Demonstrate a high level of integrity, discretion and professionalism when handling confidential and sensitive information.
• Experience in a similar role within Local Government is desirable but not essential.
• Hold a current Victorian Driver’s Licence and be willing to obtain a satisfactory Police Check.
