Lifeguard (Casual)

 Band 2 - $23.16-31.27 per hour plus casual loading

We're on the lookout for lifeguards to join our team!

Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting your career journey, we welcome individuals at all ages to join our dynamic team at one of our seasonal pools in Buloke.

Our pools are located in Charlton, Watchem, Donald, Birchip, Berriwillock, Sea Lake & Wycheproof.

The pool season operates from 14 November 2025 - 16 March 2026.

About this opportunity

The Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the safety of patrons in the pool area as well as identifying and responding to potential risks and taking appropriate action to reduce those risks. 
 
Lifeguarding duties, include:

  • Keep a watchful eye over the pool, ensuring the safety and well-being of all swimmers and at times enforcing pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe and orderly environment. 
  • Be the friendly face of our swimming pool; answer questions, offer poolside recommendations, and make every person feel welcome. 
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, providing first aid and CPR as needed. 
  • Work in a team to deliver outstanding service and ensure a smooth operation. 
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the whole facility including the bathrooms and conduct regular water testing and chemical dosing.

What will you bring

  • Valid lifeguard certification, including CPR and First Aid training.  
  • Satisfactory Working with children card
  • Strong swimming skills and proficiency in water 
  • You are self-driven, resourceful, and able to take charge of their work with minimal guidance
  • Possess excellent communication skills and a friendly disposition
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.

Important information about first aid and lifeguard training

  • To be eligible to start work as a lifeguard, you must obtain a valid lifeguard certificate and a current First Aid certificate. These certifications are not required at the time of application but must be completed prior to beginning employment.
  • To support you in completing the pre-requisite training, group training sessions have been organised. You can also organise your own training.  
  • We understand that training can be a significant upfront expense. Council will cover the course fees on your behalf.

First Aid Training

  • You must hold a current First Aid certificate prior to completing the lifeguard refresher course.
  • CPR is included in the lifeguard refresher, so your CPR qualification does not need to be current before attending.
  • First Aid certificates are valid for three years. Please check your expiry date to ensure your certificate is up to date.
  • You must hold a valid First Aid certificate that is current until at least April 2026 for your lifeguard qualification to be accredited.

Full Lifeguard course

  • 4-5 October – Lifeguard Training, Wycheproof, 10.00 am - 4.00 pm

Lifeguard Refresher Training

  • 11 October – Lifeguard Refresher, Wcyheproof, 10.00 am - 4.00 pm
  • 12 October – Lifeguard Refresher, Wycheproof, 10.00 am - 4.00 pm

First Aid Training

  • Friday 12 September 1.30pm Wycheproof
  • Friday 19 September 4.00pm Wycheproof

Compulsory Training dates:

  • 8-9 November, Council induction and skills test Wycheproof, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm

Please note:  you will only be required to attend one pool induction day.
