The Berriwillock – Birchip Road will undergo a much-needed upgrade thanks to the recent announcement of $1.5 million funding from the Federal Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
Covering a 5.6 kilometre stretch, the planned improvements will include the widening and strengthening of five sections of the road, along with the installation of two floodways to address drainage issues.
Making the recent announcement, Anne Webster, Federal Member for Mallee, said the timing could not be better to see funding start flowing.
The delivery of better and safer roads not only addresses needs for local transport companies and road users, the economic spin-offs will bring important benefits to the Mallee communities as the economy recovers from the impacts of COVID-19.
The Buloke upgrade was one of twenty projects identified across the Mallee to receive a share of $11.2 million for road and bridge improvements.
