Safe Needle Disposal

Safe Sharps Disposal

Sharps are syringes and all other types of needles for personal medical use. When sharps have been used, they must be disposed of in a sharps container.

Sharps containers come in many different shapes and sizes. Most of them are yellow and have ‘sharps’ written on them.

Buloke Shire Council provides free sharps containers to members of the community through East Wimmera Health Service in Birchip, Charlton, Donald and Wycheproof or through Mallee Track Health and Community Service in Sea Lake.

Sharps and sharps containers cannot go into your household rubbish or recycling bins so once they’re full you can return them to any of the East Wimmera Health Service locations in Birchip, Charlton, Donald or Wycheproof or to Mallee Track Health and Community Service in Sea Lake.

If you have any questions about our safe sharps disposal program, contact Council’s Public Health Officer on 1300 520 520.
