Buloke Shire Library Membership is free and provides access to a wide network of libraries across Victoria, as well our local services. 

 We can provide local readers and researchers access to a comprehensive range of books and publications in print, online and by audio streaming. 

We run a variety of local services across Buloke covering 10 locations every week. The library offers access to books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and ebooks.

You can browse, reserve and renew your library loans 24/7 using the online library service link below.

Simply login and browse for books, it will let you know where the book currently is located and you can reserve it to be delivered to your chosen location. You will be notified when it arrives.

For those who prefer audiobooks and e-books the Buloke Shire Library Service has you covered! Borrow Box is easy to use and lots of fun, Borrow Box allows you to access the world’s best stories anywhere and everywhere. 

The BorrowBox app is available from the app store on your device so you can borrow eBooks and audiobooks at the click of a button. 

 This service uses the same login details as all of the Buloke Shire Library services and allows you immediate access to your chosen book straight to your device.

Great news! Inter-library loans are returning

We know inter-library loans are valued by our members and we have been working hard to find a solution since this service was suspended. The peak body, Public Libraries Victoria, has been considering how to balance the rising costs of logistics, courier and other operational services with retaining access for members to the wide network of items we collectively hold.

Buloke Library Service is proud to confirm we will recommence inter-library loans on 8 May 2023.

Some changes apply

• In order to reduce environmental and logistical costs, deliveries will now occur weekly. Consolidating materials and moving them more efficiently allows us to continue offering the widest range of resources for our members. This may lead to a slightly longer wait, but ensures we are able to keep the service free.
• A limit of 20 inter-library loan requests per user will apply at any one time. We understand this service is invaluable for many members and to ensure we can keep offering this option we must ensure it is used appropriately. Moving books involves carbon miles and costs for the borrowing library. It’s up to all of us to ensure we responsibly use this service.
• New release titles may not be available via inter-library loans. If Buloke Shire Library does not have a new release title in our local collection, please consider asking our staff if we can obtain a copy.

What are the factors that have led to these changes to the inter-library loan program?

It is an unfortunate reality that increasing costs have impacted many aspects of our service, and inter-library loans are a resource-heavy area.

Victorian public libraries have worked together to identify ways to reduce the costs of delivering inter-library loans. We have streamlined services, identified the most cost-effective methods of moving items across the state, and considered the most equitable ways to ensure all libraries receive value for money.

Weighing the needs of you, our members, and our responsibility to provide the best value service to our community, it is our belief that a restructured program is preferable to the permanent suspension of this valuable service.

How you can help

• Please collect your inter-library loans when ordered, or cancel if they are no longer required. Uncollected items account for more than 10% of our costs.
• Please return items to the library you borrowed them from where possible as this will also help reduce transportation costs.
• If you have multiple library memberships, check what conditions apply as they may vary from library to library.
