The Buloke Shire Council levies rates and charges in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989 (Victoria) and the Valuation of Land Act 1960 (Victoria). Council's Revenue department handles all enquiries concerning this process and is happy to discuss any issues or concerns that ratepayers may have.
Rate Payment Due Dates for 2013-14
Rate Notices are usually forwarded to ratepayers in August of each year.

Paying by instalments
If you wish to pay by instalments you must make the first payment no later than 30 September 2013 to ensure that your property is included in the instalment option payment system. Instalment payments are then due as follows:
If a first payment is not received by 30 September 2013, payment is expected in full by 17 February 2014. Reminder notices will not be issued.
If you make pay a first instalment after 30 September 2013, your payment will be treated as a part payment towards the full payment due 17 February 2014...
Overdue rates will be charged with interest. The interest rate is 10.5% per year and will be charged on the amount owing from 28 July to the date of payment. If you are having difficulty meeting payment deadlines, see the Financial Hardship section below.
If you are experiencing financial hardship that may prevent you paying your rates by the due date, you should contact Council as soon as possible to discuss an alternative payment arrangement. Please phone Council's Revenue Services Officer on 1300 520 520.
Pension Concession Cards are issued by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans Affairs. To be eligible for the rate concession you must hold one of the following cards:
- Centrelink - Pensioner Concession Card
- DVA - Gold Card (TPI) or Gold Card (War Widow)
Cardholders are entitled to a rebate of rates of $202.90 (2013-2014) on their principle place of residence.
You will need to fill in the Municipal Rates Concession Application Form and return this to Council. Hard copies of this form are available at any of Council’s district offices.
Health Care Cards do not entitle ratepayers to a rate rebate.

Council now offers payment by Direct Debit from a nominated bank account. Applications available from Council.
Contact your participating bank, credit union or building society to make payments directly from your savings or cheque account. Biller Code and Reference numbers are detailed on your rate notice.
Contact your Council if you wish to organise a Centrepay deduction from your Centrelink payment.
Pay in person at any post office using cash, cheque or eftpos (no credit cards), or any of Council’s district offices.
